Library Services and Resources

Access to Databases and Other Online Resources

RPCC Library provides access to numerous online resources, many of which are not available to the general public, including:

  • The Library's Online Catalog, which lists items in our collections, is accessible on or off-campus and does not require login.
  • Databases, collections of indexes to journal, magazine, newspaper and other articles; off-campus access requires login.
  • NetLibrary, a provider of E-Books; off-campus access requires login.
  • Quick Reference Resources, lists links to numerous resources.
  • Course Guides & Research Guides, both listing various resources as handouts, online resources and books in our collection.
  • Web Search Tools.

Most of the databases are available to our users as a result of our membership in LOUIS, the Louisiana Library Network. For information on accessing and using any of these valuable resources, please see a Library staff member; we also offer several online Tutorials, for assistance on or off campus.

Library Orientation & User Instruction

RPCC Library offers orientation and user instruction in a variety of ways.

  • Students may ask for assistance as needed, for one-on-one instruction. Just ask for help. Any of our staff are always willing to be of assistance.
  • Faculty may request sessions for general library orientation or specific instruction in the use of certain resources as desired for their classes. Please see the forms to request Course-Integrated Instruction on our Faculty Resources page.
  • Students may also register for the online class, LISR 1000, Research Strategies/Electronic Resources, a one-credit course, for more formal instruction. This course transfers to LSU, SLU and other schools and may fulfill certain degree requirements. While it is recommended for students in such degree programs, any student may register. See your Academic Advisor.

Course Reserves

Course Reserves is available for faculty to place materials in the Library at the Circulation Desk for their students' use for limited periods of time.

  • Faculty may place personal materials on Reserve or they may request items from our collection. The Form and Instructions for faculty are available on the Faculty Resources page.
  • We also have textbooks for most of the classes offered. These are available only for 4 hours and are intended for use by students only until they receive their own copies. Currently, textbooks are available all semester, but the policy is under review. Check with us and watch for notices about pending policy changes.
  • Students may see what materials their instructors may have on Reserve by checking in the Library's Online Catalog, then clicking on the link for Reserve Desk.

LALINC, Interlibrary Lending & Borrowing

LALINC and Interlibrary Lending & Borrowing are ways of getting materials from other sources when we don't have them in our collection or cannot otherwise access them.

  • LALINC is the Louisiana Academic Library Information Network Consortium, a partnership of libraries and other organizations throughout the state formed to develop cooperation of library services and sharing of resources. Faculty and certain students from member institutions may be allowed to borrow certain materials from libraries at other member institutions. Please see a Librarian for more information and to get a LALINC card.
  • Interlibrary Lending & Borrowing are other options for sharing resources between libraries. If a user needs an item not owned by his/her library, the library tries to locate it in another library's collection and arrange to borrow it on their user's behalf. While it can take time and must be planned for in advance, this option may sometimes be the only way to locate certain information. Please see a librarian for assistance.
