Using Online Library Resources From Home


The RPCC Library Catalog, Databases, and E-Book collections can all be accessed from off-campus locations through the Library's homepage 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.


Off-Campus Access to LOUIS Databases

STUDENTS: To access the RPCC databases, you must use your Library User ID, which is a 12-digit number comprised of your 9-digit RPCC Student Number, followed by a three digit code ('100' for students).


Your ALT ID (alternate ID) is your social security number.


Your PIN is the last four digits of your social security number.


Example:  A student has a Student ID Number of 891234567 and his social security number is 444-33-5555.  Therefore, his User ID is 891234567100 and his PIN is 5555.

Library IDs

FACULTY and STAFF: To access the RPCC databases, you must use your Library User ID, which is a 12-digit number comprised of your 9-digit Social Security Number, followed by a three digit code ('200' for faculty and staff).


Your ALT ID (alternate ID) is your social security number.


Your PIN is the last four digits of your social security number.


Example:  A faculty member has a Social Security Number of 123456789. Therefore, his User ID is 123456789200 and his PIN is 6789.


Off-Campus Access to RPCC Databases

The following database resources require a user login ID and password for off-campus use:

  • American History in Video
  • A to Z Maps Online
  • Encyclopedia Britannica Online Academic Edition
  • Global Road Warrior
  • Oxford English Dictionary
  • Oxford Reference Online: Premium Collection
  • Salem Reference Resources
  • World Book Online

To obtain the RPCC login ID and password, do one of the following:


1. Log into your RPCC Blackboard account and go to "RPCC Library Resources" (click on the "Off-Campus IDs and Passwords" button) to see the login ID and password


2. Contact a librarian (LRC@rpcc.edu) during normal business hours, or


3. Visit the RPCC library for off-campus access information for these resources


LearningExpress Library (Tutorials and eBooks)

If you already have a LearningExpress Library account, click here: LearningExpress Library

You must first create a LearningExpress Library account while on campus before you can access the tutorials and ebooks remotely. After you have created your account, use your user name and password to access LearningExpress Library resources by clicking here. Be certain to use your 9-digit student ID number or your RPCC Blackboard ID as your username.

If you are off campus now:

If you do NOT have a LearningExpress Library account and you are off-campus, you may have one of our librarians create an account for you by emailing the Library.

Email the following information to lrc@rpcc.edu with "RPCC LearningExpress Library Account" as the Subject:

  • User ID: (preferably your 12-digit RPCC Library User ID or your Blackboard ID)
  • Password: (your password must be at least six alpha-numeric characters in length)
  • Your Full Name: (the name you use at RPCC as a student)
  • Your Email Address: (where we can contact you about your LearningExpress Library account)

A librarian will contact you via email when your account has been set up during normal working hours.


netLibrary eBooks

If you already have a netLibrary account, click here: netLibrary

You must first create a NetLibrary E-book account while on campus before you can access E-books remotely. After you have created your account, use your user name and password to access NetLibrary E-books by clicking here.

TO ACCESS NETLIBRARY FOR THE FIRST TIME, FOLLOW THESE DIRECTIONS:

If you are on campus now:

While on the RPCC campus, you may create your account yourself by clicking here.  Be certain to use your 9-digit student ID number or your RPCC Blackboard ID as your username. Your password must be at least six (6) characters long.

If you are off campus now:

If you do NOT have a NetLibrary account and you are off-campus, you may have one of our librarians create an account for you by emailing the Library.

If you try creating a NetLibrary account yourself from off-campus, you will only have access to NetLibrary's free e-books. Signing up from on campus or with the help of a librarian will allow you access to approximately 60,000 ebooks owned by RPCC in addition to the almost 4,000 free ebooks.

Email the following information to lrc@rpcc.edu with "RPCC netLibrary Account" as the Subject:

  • User ID: (preferably your 12-digit RPCC Library User ID or your Blackboard ID)
  • Password: (your password must be at least six alpha-numeric characters in length)
