- Standards, Assessments, and Accountability, Test Results, Louisiana State Department of Education — find the latest test scores for a district or school. Find more information and some practice problems for the LEAP test.
- Louisiana PASS - Louisiana State Department of Education — an online practice site that allows students to practice problems that are similar to those on the LEAP and GEE tests. This site is open to all students in the state in grades 4, 8, 10, and 11.
- Math Playground has several categories from which to select, including worksheets, computation practice, and manipulatives. This is a great Website for children to practice facts and to work with the same manipulatives they have access to in class. There are also timed flash cards to help learn facts.
- Math Cats is a Website filled with open-ended problems and ways for children to explore and be creative with math.
- Figure This! is a Website full of challenges both students and families can do together to explore math. The challenges are open-ended and require higher-order thinking skills. There are solutions, hints, and how to get started.
- FunBrain is a wonderful resource, not only for math. It includes games and quizzes on a variety on math topics.
- Kids.gov - Math and Numbers is list of math and technology-related Websites for children.
- Starfall is a great interactive Website for children. They can do everything from learn to read with basic letter recognition to reading a book.
- Professor Garfield is an interesting Website filled with games and activities for children to do. This is a very busy site, so it can be hard to navigate at first.
- RIF Reading Planet is a great Website that allows children to create their own stories, play games, and even read some books online. There is also an activity center were families can get ideas for activities they can do together.
- FunBrain is a wonderful resource for reading. It includes some books that children can read online. It also has several different versions of Mad Libs that help children with the parts of speech.
- Kids.gov has several lists of science-related Websites for children. Select science from the K-5 drop-down menu and click on the type of science content needed.
- Children’s Museum of Indianapolis has several interactive lessons and games that children can play. These lessons go along with exhibits in the museum, so they may change when exhibits change. They are divided by grade level.
- Cool Science for Curious Kids has several investigations that children can do to learn about different science topics. The investigations have cool titles that appeal to children’s curiosity about the world.
- NASA - Education - For Students has everything you would ever need to know about space. The Website is broken down by grade levels and has a section for teachers.
- National Geographic for Kids has articles, games, and even a section to help with homework. Just like the version for adults, there are a lot of beautiful pictures from around the world. This is great resource to use for research.
- World Almanac for Kids is another great place to do research. It contains kid friendly information on a variety of information. It is well organized and easy to understand. It also has some games and quizzes that children can complete.
- Stately Knowledge is a part of the Internet Public Library Website. It contains all kinds of facts about each state, as well as links to other Websites about that state. This is a great resource for doing research on states for state reports.
- White House for Kids gives children an inside look into the White House and how the President lives. It also has a section about Presidential history. There are videos of the White House pets and some fun games as well.
- Kids.gov - Social Studies has a list of several Websites that are appropriate for children. Each Website has a description of the content covered. There are topics from maps to countries to outer space for children to explore.
- Songs for Teaching is a clearing house for educational songs. This Website has numerous categories of songs. Each song has the lyrics and a sample of the song. There are links for downloading or ordering the CD. This Website is for teachers and parents who want to incorporate music into their daily routines.
- The Music Lab is a great Website for children to explore the different concepts involved in music. They get to explore making music and learn about the different instruments that are part of a symphony.
- Music Education Worksheets is a Website containing a large list of worksheets that parents and teachers can download for free. The worksheets are designed to help students recognize the notes on the treble and base clefs.
- Foreign Language Units contains several lessons that teachers can prepare. The lessons are mostly for upper elementary and beyond. There are Internet sites associated with each lesson that provide the needed research material.
- Best Spanish Websites is a clearing house for a collection of Websites that cover a variety of Spanish topics. There are games to help children learn Spanish letter sounds to help with Spanish homework. There are also links to give children information about the culture of countries and places where Spanish is spoken.
- Best French Websites is a clearing house for a collection of Websites that cover a variety of French topics. There are games to help children learn French letter sounds to help with French homework. There are also links to give children information about the culture of countries and places where French is spoken.
- Jim Becker’s Website is the master site for the two above sites. It has resources for a number of languages, including Chinese and Italian.
- Miscositas is a Website full of wonderful resources for foreign language teachers. There are some virtual books for children (in different languages). Thematic units with additional resources are included.
- Kids.gov has several choices under the Grades K-5 tab for health. Parents, teachers, and children can select from health, fitness, and safety. All three sections contain a list of kid-friendly Websites.
- Dole SuperKids is a Website that allows children to explore different fruits and learn more about the food pyramid. There is a cookbook section, as well as some fun games for children. There are sections for parents and teachers.
- K-12 Health and P.E. Sites is a Website that lists a variety of health and P.E. related Websites that can be used with any age group. Most of the Websites are for research and teacher information. Some of the Websites do offer interactive games or activities for children.
- Microsoft Office - Help has several products and features that can help teachers easily incorporate technology into what they are already doing.
- A Change in Attitude is an article about a high school that adopted technology and how they are using it. It includes a wonderful video of students and teachers interacting with the technology.
- Education World - Planning has some good articles and good research material for how to incorporate technology into a classroom.
- Intel - Education has a good resource to help teachers understand the technology and how best to incorporate it into the classroom.
- U.S. Census Bureau has a Louisiana QuickFacts Website. This Website lists the numbers from the last unofficial census check (last updated July 25, 2008).
- Louisiana.gov is the official Website for Louisiana.
- Kid’s Corner is a Website for children that includes coloring books and quizzes on animals. This Website also has tours of wetlands and hurricane games and guides.
- Louisiana 101 is a Website created by a Louisiana teacher for teachers of Louisiana history. This Website contains lesson ideas, as well as other resources.
- Internet Public Library is a good resource for starting your research.
- River Parishes Community College Library has e-books and a searchable catalog.
- Library of Congress has a list of all libraries that can be searched online.
- Write Source has a wonderful guide for formatting papers and reference pages.
- The Owl at Purdue has a guide for formatting papers using APA style.
- RapidCite is a Website that will generate your reference page for you. This is not a reliable source, but it can be used to double check what you are doing.
