Comprehensive Standard: Qualified Staff
Narrative and supporting documentation
RPCC Library employs a sufficient number of fully qualified professional and support staff with appropriate education and experience based on ACRL standards and in comparison to similar academic libraries. Library staff includes three full-time MLS professional librarians and one full-time support position. It should also be noted that two part-time student workers are employed each semester for basic circulation support and to process new library materials [See 3.8.3(01) -3.8.3(02)].
Description of staffing in other comparable libraries:
A comparison of SACS-accredited peer institutions, similar in size to RPCC, affirms that library staff levels in the RPCC Library are adequate. RPCC’s community college peers were chosen based on associate degree level and enrollment size of approximately 2,000 or less [See 3.8.3(06)].
Description of RPCC survey results:
In addition, Library Services surveys indicate that 82% of faculty respondents agreed that the level of professional and support staff in Library Services was highly effective in meeting faculty and student needs (Learning Resource Services Faculty Needs Assessment & Evaluation survey, 2006/2007 (full-time faculty and adjunct faculty)) [See 3.8.3(07) and 3.8.3(08)].
The 2005 ACT Student Opinion Survey of RPCC students also indicated that 88% of students were satisfied with the Library’s facilities and services (score equaled 4.38 out of a possible 5) [See 3.8.3(09)].
The 2006-2007 Institutional Assessment Survey of RPCC students indicated that 84% of respondents agreed or strongly agreed that adequate assistance was available in locating materials in the library (question 14) [See 3.8.3(10)].
The spring 2007 Library Services Student Survey indicated that 100% of respondents were satisfied or very satisfied with the quality of service/assistance that they received from RPCC Library Services staff (question 4). The survey also indicated that 92% of respondents were satisfied or very satisfied with the number of staff available to assist them in the RPCC Library (question 6) [See 3.8.3 (11)].
